Other Decorative Stones
The other decorative stones which are in demand, include sandstones, quartzite's, calc-silicates, slates, schists and rose- quartz. Lot of potential exist for quarrying of such stones from various deposits of South Bihar.Sandstone
Sandstones and quartzites of the iron-ore series in Singhbhum district occur in huge quantities near Barijol, north-east of Chaibasa and north-west of Galudih Railway Station. They provide an easily worked stone usually of light-grey or pale-buff colour of pleasing appearance, some having a slightly greenish tint. The harder stone can take a good polish, but as a rule they are used rough dressed. Archean sandstone-quatzite in Monghyr and Gaya districts, are usually suitable for building purposes.
The basal sandstones of Kolhan series in Singhbhum has quite intensively been quarried for building purposes in Chaibasa areas. It is finely banded,well-bedded and easily worked stone of dark purplish colour. It is quite resistant to weathering and retains its colour indefinitely in any exposed position.
Excellent fine-grained sandstone are available in Vindhyan rocks of Kaimur in Rohtas district. These provide perhaps the best building stones in the State. They occur in massive beds permitting the extraction of quite large panels. Their colour is generally pale-red to grey, some are banded or mottled. They have retained their colour in the most exposed position throughout the centuries.

Kitchen Counters
The central island, positioned asymmetrically in the room, accommodates a structural column and contrasts its verticality with the intersecting planes of the dining and work counters.
Signatures of Granites
Because of its hardness and comparative cheapness in relation to marble, granite is often used to make kitchen countertops. A granite countertop can be cut in any shape, and it is virtually unscratchable.
