Granite Slabs
In Chhotanagpur area, there are deposits of at least five different colours of granite. On the basis of variation in colour and design, there will be many sub varieties of the main five varieties, which on the choice of the intending buyers, can be processed to yield slabs and tiles to be supplied to them. Out of these, the deposit of Semra, Salatua, Nawadih and adjoining areas in Palamu, are milky-white in colour, part of which are not only suitable for manufacture of granite slabs and tiles but also for sculptures. Materials from these areas are taken to Pathar-katti in Gaya district to carve out different kinds of statues which are sold at high prices to ensure good margin of profits.Deposits of pink-marble are found in Hesadih area in Singhbhum district, which is located at a distance of forty kilometers South of Khunti on Khunti-Chaibasa Road.
In Lathehar area of PaIamu, huge deposits of marble occur which are light-greenish in colour with different designs. Marble and granite slabs, tiles and mosaic-chips of this marbleare under heavy demand, particularly in Calcutta market. Samples of this kind of marble were exhibited in STONA - 92, Bangalore, and many buyers had shown their interests to buy this material.
Huge deposits of purple-limestone are found in Jagannathpur Jhinkpani areas of Singhbhum which are flaggy in nature. Slicing of such limestone is not required as nature has already done this job. Only after rough polishing and edge-cutting, this can be used in the form of beautiful slabs and tiles.
Extensive deposits of deep-blue marbles are reported from Ghatkuri areas in South Singhbhum. These marbles are exposed on the flanks of Karo river. Beautiful granite slabs and tiles can be manufactured from this material and made available to the interested buyers.
Serpentine which are commercially known as green marble are found associated with Archean ultrabasic igneous rocks. Deposits of serpentine are found not only in the vicinity of the chromite deposits of West Chaibasa but also where ultrabasic rocks are known to crop-out. They are particularly wide-spread in Dhalbhum. No attempt has so far been made to open up these deposits which can yield costly and lovely slabs and tiles of green colour. Further, this material caI1widely be used on cottage-scale for manufacture of attractive ash-trays, flower-vases,candle-stand, Agarbatti-stand,pen-stand, and as such will open up employment opportunities for many downtrodden in Adiwasi dominated areas of Singhbhum district. This marble can also be used for manufacture of green mosaic-chips being brought to this State from Rajasthan.

It is advisabe to use a porous material in this area, as bathrooms will always have a high level of humidity. Granite and Italian white marble from the Apuan area are good choices, and Breccia with its compact granularity, as well as other coloured marbles.
