Decorative Stones
Decorative Stones of Bihar Characteristics & DistributionBihar is endowed with vast resources of granites and other decorative stones having various colour-shades, textures and patterns. Detailed geological exploration for delineating and demarcating the actual mine able portions of these deposits is badly needed to promote the stone based industries of the State which is yet in an infant stage. Stray representative samples were drawn from some of the stone deposits, processed and exhibited in STONA - 92 organized at Bangalore in November, 1992. Many of the samples were approved by domestic and foreign buyers who recorded their interest to buy the materials either in polished form or in from of roughly dressed dimensional blocks.
The Chhotanagpur Plateau of Bihar constitutes a part of the Archean shield comprising of the oldest rocks like Charnockites, banded gneissic complex, older metamorphics and basement rocks intruded upon by dykes of basic rocks like dolerites of later age. This shield area constitutes the best geological entities where vast resources of granite and other decorative stones occur.
The broad distribution of various kinds of granites and other stones in Bihar are as follows; their locations shown in the enclosed map.
There are many types of potential binding agents including various polymers (acrylic, urethane, silicones, polyesters etc.) as well as mineral based silicates available. Caution must be exercised in the evaluation of a potential binding agent as the physical compatibility of the binder with the stone is critical.

Think about the visual impact of a countertop. In a cold climate, you may want to stay away from stones such as marble and granite, which tend to appear cold.

The central island, positioned asymmetrically in the room, accommodates a structural column and contrasts its verticality with the intersecting planes of the dining and work counters.
